Hi beauties!  I get a lot of questions from my friends and readers — and often there are plenty of overlapping topics.  So instead of copy and pasting answers from old emails, I decided to create a FAQ page here.  If any of you have any other questions you’d like answer, feel free to email me and I’ll answer it here!



WHICH PROBIOTICS DO YOU USE?

Right now, I’m obsessed with SBO probiotics which stands for Soil Based Organisms.  Like this one and that one.  I love what JOSH AXE has to say about it.  And KIMBERLY SNYDER too.

But, I also cycle my probiotics — and these are the ones that end up in my rotation.  They’re of top quality — but can also be more expensive than the generics out there.

WHICH SUNSCREEN DO YOU USE ON YOURSELF AND THE KIDS EVERYDAY?

I did a blog piece on this before.

For myself, I still love COLORESCIENCE and SHISEIDO — but I’ve also been incorporating COOLA SUNCARE now for my face and body.  It’s 70% certified organic (“Farm to Face,” they say!) and it smells so darn delicious.  COLORESCIENCE is amazing for mid day applications.  It doesn’t ruin your makeup and you can also dust it on the back of your hands and get blockage without a greasy mess!

For the kids, I still love JASON for the body and BADGER for the face.  If they’re doing a beach or lake day though, I use BADGER everywhere.  They even have bug repellent sunscreen which is perfect for the lake!


WHAT EXACTLY IS PALEO AND WHY DO YOU FOLLOW IT?

The Paleo diet aka “The Caveman Diet” is a diet that is centered on what people believe to have been eaten by early humans.   Paleo foods consist of unprocessed foods — so they’re foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, nut butters, eggs, organic meats, etc.

You eat healing foods that aren’t inflammatory like wheat, corn, legumes and sugars.  This diet has proven itself to be very helpful for those with autoimmune issues, MS, Dementia, digestive issues, etc.

I don’t always follow it, but I do as much as I can.  I’m an accidental 90% Paleo eater in the same way I’m an accidental 90% Vegan eater.  I just try to nourish my body with super yummy foods that are healthy and delicious – while being kind to our animals, our earth and our bellies.  My normal meal usually consists of sweet potatoes, veggies, tempeh, sea veggies.  Things of that nature.  (I haven’t eaten red meat since I was 12 years old when it dawned on me that the animals were being tortured in order to make an appearance on our plates.)

So I’m Paleo/Vegan as much as I can be — but I do love my gluten free cookies and almond milk lattes!


DO WE REALLY NEED TO BUY EXPENSIVE ORGANIC FOODS?

I say “Yes!”  I’d rather splurge at the market than at the medical doctor’s billing office.  Eating clean is preventive medicine.

There are so many toxins in the foods we eat and the air we breathe.  We should do as much as we have control over – such as drinking clean water and installing a water filtration system in our homes — and eating clean, organic foods.

However, there are also many foods that we don’t necessarily need to buy organic.

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) lays out the DIRTY DOZEN for us which are foods we must buy organic!  They also educate us on the CLEAN FIFTEEN which are foods we don’t necessarily need to buy organic (due to their naturally thick skins/rinds, etc.)


HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOU SHOULD BE EATING A GLUTEN FREE DIET?

Your body will tell you.

However, if you want to be certain, you can go to the doctor and take an allergy test.

Or you can simply do an elimination diet.  This means you cut out all the common known allergen foods like:

  • Gluten
  • Dairy
  • Soy
  • Refined/added sugar
  • Peanuts
  • Corn
  • Alcohol
  • Eggs, in some cases
  • Usually all packaged, processed or fast foods

HOW IN THE WORLD DO YOU FIND THE TIME TO WRITE THIS BLOG?

I don’t waste time during the day.  Plain and simple.  I don’t binge watch TV or Netflix; but instead I utilize every second of the day in a useful way.

If I do watch TV or Netflix, I’m multitasking with something else.  A workout or something where I don’t need to exert extreme mental focus on the task at hand.

I sleep 7 hours every night.

I also wake up at 4am in the morning and I look forward to it.  The morning is quiet and dark and mine.  I get my coffee, my silence and my laptop.  And I couldn’t be happier.


I’VE BEEN WANTING TO START A BLOG FOREVER.  HOW DOES ONE GET STARTED?

Just write and write often.  Make sure your blog is easy to read and not cluttered with flashing banners.

Think of the name of your blog/website and then buy that domain name on Godaddy.com or somewhere similar.

Sign up with a Hosting site like WordPress.

If you need a web designer, then I have a great one whom I’ve referred many friends to.  Just ask me.

Then Voila!  Start writing and uploading photos!
